USDC and CCTP are coming to Aptos. Learn more about what it means for the ecosystem.
Native USDC and Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) are coming soon to Aptos!
Aptos is a Move-based layer-1 blockchain dedicated to delivering secure, scalable, and upgradeable Web3 infrastructure. With a DeFi ecosystem that has grown 7.75X this year alone, Aptos provides developers the infrastructure needed to support the next generation of payment solutions and DeFi applications for widespread adoption.
With this upcoming launch, Aptos will gain support for native USDC and CCTP. Aptos enables developers to build apps for a variety of use cases, including DeFi, peer-to-peer payments, cross-border remittances, global commerce, RWAs, gaming, and more. With the arrival of native USDC, developers can build with the largest regulated dollar stablecoin in the industry.1
Additionally, CCTP will enable developers to design cross-chain experiences by connecting their Aptos apps to additional blockchains including Arbitrum, Base, Ethereum, Solana, and more. With no need to lock up liquidity, CCTP provides a highly secure and capital-efficient way to transact with USDC across blockchains.
Currently, bridged USDC (from Ethereum) is the largest stablecoin on Aptos, with more than $140M in circulation.2 Bridge providers such as Stargate, built on LayerZero, will provide a smooth transition from the existing bridged USDC on Aptos to native USDC over time. There are no immediate changes to the AptosBridge built on LayerZero, and it will continue to operate as normal. Ahead of the launch of native USDC, bridged USDC from the AptosBridge will be renamed to lzUSDC on block explorers. There will be outreach to ecosystem apps to encourage them to make the same change in their app UI and documentation.
Aptos Announces Stripe Integration with USDC Support
Additionally, Aptos Foundation announced they will be the next blockchain supported across Stripe’s crypto products, including support of native USDC. With the forthcoming addition of Aptos to Stripe’s crypto products, users will be able to seamlessly convert fiat currencies into USDC, directly through Aptos-enabled wallets. This integration will enable the use of USDC for Stripe's global network of businesses. The combination of Stripe's payment tools and Aptos’ scalable network unlocks new opportunities for global merchants and payment providers to process USDC transactions faster, more securely, and at lower costs.
Benefits of native USDC
- Regulated1, fully reserved and redeemable 1:1 for US dollars3
- Enables institutional on/off-ramps like Circle Mint for eligible users
- Easy integration into your existing apps
With CCTP, developers will be able to:
- Enable users to move native USDC securely between 9 blockchains (with the addition of Aptos) across 72 routes with 1:1 capital efficiency
- Build apps that facilitate transactions across MoveVM, EVM, SVM, and Cosmos SDK blockchains
- Enable seamless cross-chain onboarding, swaps, purchases, treasury rebalancing and more while maintaining a mainstream user experience
